The various and opposite sides of Capetown, South Africa

Capetown is populated with numerous shanty-towns, where the government provides electricity and limited resources to the burgeoning population. People move here from all over Africa in search of a better life and the housing construction simply cannot keep pace; thus the pitiful housing situation.
On the other side of town, beautiful homes dot the coast and affluent neighborhoods of the middle class to the super wealthy. This shot was taken close to the airport.

Actually the people living there are not from all over Africa. During the Apartheid times: the white people (Gov.) move all the black people to this area (called Native yards), and there was no develpment done compared to the beatiful coastline. The people living here were moved from their lands that they had in some Surbarbs and dumped here. Now after South Africa regained their freedom: The was a backlog in developmnet, with other poeple moving from other states to Capetown to find employment.
So it was pure racism that this Area was established….hence its distance from the CBD.
There certainly is a backlog in development. They told me that as soon as brand new housing is constructed by the government, that more shantys are established along the perimeters?
