Worship Poll: Top area to improve?

DSC04103When it comes to worship, why not offer God our absolute best?  Yet, in far too many settings, worship is approached in a lifeless and half-hearted manner.  If you could choose (from the list) the top one area you’d like to see improved with your assembly experience, which one would be your top choice?

  1. We can only pick one??? Each one of those items are things of concern for us!

  2. I believe that all the options on the poll are needed.

I am a worship minister in the Hispanic Church of Christ in Chula Vista Ca.
I have grown in the Hispanic Church of Christ since I was born, and I understand the great need of the song leading in the worship services.
Most Hispanic churches are on dippers regarding harmony and song leading, even though the worship services are very spiritual and the congregation sings with their hearts, the worship experience can be enhanced with all the options on this poll.

We have berry few song leaders or worship ministers in the Hispanic congregations that are well prepared (musically speaking) but we are working on this matter by motivating in the congregations in the area with worship workshops and seminars.

Please remember us in your prayers so we can continue with this work for the glory of our God.

PD. Sorry for the grammar, as you can notice, I’m still learning the language.

  3. In my opinion, the thing that needs improvement is our attitude. I’ve been to congregations of nearly six hundred and been moved. I’ve been to congregations where there were eight, including my family, and been moved. I’ve been to congregations where the singing was wonderful, but I was wasn’t moved because I was to focused on the musical side of things.

When we understand that ALL songs can be moving, even if their not in any particular order, and are lacking in four-part harmony. When we CHOOSE to the assembly with an attitude that says “I’m here to glorify my God.” We can be moved even if there’s if there are only 3 people there. In Mt. 18:20 Jesus says “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” If we come in Jesus name then he’s there and it doesn’t matter if a song is pitched a half step the wrong direction, or the song goes a step flat because the song leader doesn’t have the range to hit the high notes.

    • Amen Brother! Too many times we worry about how it sounds or who’s leading worship. It’s about our personal attitudes as we worship. There’s a deaf/mute family that attends the same congregation as myself. I wonder what they think needs to be improved the most in our worship service. When I am the one leading singing, I can’t help but notice them down near the front signing every word, even though they can not hear what it sounds like. They still chose to worship.

  4. Josh, you are right in that personal attitudes must be changed in each individual to truly worship our God. As a worship leader though, it is my responsibility to set the tone for the assembly as it worships together so that all may be encouraged to participate. The worship leader needs to be well organized, know the congregation, and plan the worship with all ages in mind. Even if the congregation is not well versed in “4-part harmony”, we should at least strive to to give Him the best of our efforts. There is little worse than a worship leader who is unorganized and uninterested in giving his best effort as he leads the assembly to the throne of God.

    • I agree with that. The worship leader needs to be prepared and organized. I was referring to the fact that sometimes the leader is often blamed for a poor worship service, sometimes rightfully so, but other times it is because the member who would be doing the blaming is too busy trying to pick apart every mistake that they forget that worship is personal. For instance, I could go into the middle of the woods and worship God. I could sing praises to his name and pray to him, all without the necessity of a worship leader. I just think people need to realize that they don’t need a dynamic worship leader to worship in spirit and in truth. Yes it is very helpful when someone uses their talents to assist in leading songs that are appropriate organized in a way to direct our minds rightfully, but it isn’t necessary.
