F.H. and Becky Gates celebrate 31 years in Brazil
Missions Saturday, July 17th, 2010
Forest Hunter and Becky Gates have been serving as missionaries to Brazil for 31 years. They reside in the city of Belo Horizonte – with a population (of the greater area) boasting five million. F.H. and Becky met at Freed Hardeman University, during the same time frame when Sharon and I were students there. They married just four months after us, so we join them in celebrating 33 years of marriage. They have two children, three grandchildren and a grand-dog.
For 12 years, F.H. has hosted a television program called “Open Your Bible,” that reaches 18 of the 23 states of Brazil. He is involved in the “National Bible School” which is involved in leadership training. Their congregation has an attendance of 260, and they have started 10 other congregations in the Belo Horizonte area. In October, with the assistance of Tennessee Children’s Home, they launched a children’s home in Belo.
I’m encouraged to hear them talk about how their children were raised listening to Acappella. We look forward to worshiping with this marvelous couple who have meant a lot to us, and to Acappella Ministries over the years. Acappella will be singing at their congregation for an outreach concert.
