Hot Sauce Galore at Farmer’s Market

While visiting the Farmer’s Market in Hollywood, we found a place that was dedicated to all kinds of hot sauce. There were barbeque and hot sauces of every kind; many with names and labels I would not want to print. This one claims to be so good it’ll make you want to “slap your mama.” I did purchase some of the peanuts, which didn’t seem overly spicy at first, but that opinion was very short-lived.

A Legend in his own Mind?

I thought legends had to be dead? I was taken aback as I arrived at this small, country church with a sign about a “legendary” singer to be there sometime; and I couldn’t wait to meet this guy. Wait . . . They were talking about me? Gracious! Their lavish gesture was coupled with a six-minute introduction at our workshop in Myrtle Creek, Oregon. Needless to say, I felt uncomfortable with that intense of a spotlight. I was VERY encouraged by the fact that people came from all denominations to attend the workshop, but found it very amusing that the church had to explain just “how famous” I was – - as most of those in attendance had no idea!

I blogged about how the Park Plaza Church recently received the Antioch Award from Missions Resource Network. Our preacher, Mitch Wilburn, told me of his discomfort at the plush banquet and ceremony in Dallas which honored the Park Plaza church. “It’s like having someone wash your feet,” Mitch shared. “It’s easier to wash the feet of someone else than to receive that kind of gesture yourself.” Now, I know what he felt like, as the well-intentioned accolades sure made me feel uncomfortable. It’s always safe to remember that without Christ, we are all just meaningless dust. However, I have to thank the Tri-City Church for going far out of their way to encourage me. It sure beats the opposite, as I can remember when churches took out full-page advertisements in local newspapers to criticize Acappella Ministries for singing at various denominations and for demonstrating the flexibility of the human voice by making vocal sounds “like instruments.” Although we can’t enjoy it too much, we “gotta” enjoy the positive commentary when it comes.

With all of our extensive travels, you may be surprised that we have never visited New Orleans. I remember driving through on the interstate, but never stopping. In fact, I never really desired to see this infamous city. This week paints a much different picture, as we’re enjoying a mission trip with other folks from Park Plaza. Not only is there fabulous food everywhere, we found some great photo opportunities, including New Orleans at night.

With All-Vocal music, you are set to Sing anywhere

Here’s a photo I snapped of an all-vocal group singing at the Water Front in Capetown, South Africa. I’ve often told people that a bonus of a cappella groups is that we don’t have to set up drums, instruments and complex stage set-ups; rather we can simply strike up a song on any street-corner, public or private place.

Annual Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta is an amazing experience

Millions of people have enjoyed the annual Albuquerque Baloon Fiesta, and this year is no exception. This month, the event lasts from October 3 – 11. We enjoyed two of those days with perfect weather and photo opportunities. I’ve been told that this is the most photographed event in the world! If you arrive very early in the mornings, you can experience the mass ascensions. It’s an unforgettable experience to see hundreds of balloons ascending at the same time!

The competitions are fascinating and the diversity of balloon shapes and colors makes for a true fiesta. As with many sports, there is a degree of danger involved. We witnessed an accident that was caught on video. Check out the video in the right column of my blog. I haven’t had time to view and edit the host of photos I caputred. Stay tuned . . .
