Congregational Singing before Brasilia’s Acappella Concert

Junior, one of the ministry team leaders of the Brasilia church, leads enthusiastic congregational singing to the crowd that assembled for Acappella’s second concert in the capital city. He lead a Twila Paris song, “He Is Exalted.” I enjoyed singing along in English as he lead the crowd in Portuguese.

Worshiping in Brazil – God’s love in any language

What a joy to worship with the church in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Our team knew a majority of the songs included in the worship assembly, although the congregation was singing in Portuguese while we sang along in English.

Durant Features Special Guest Artists on new Worship CD

Melissa Lancaster has produced an amazing, high energy CD targeting young people. Various artists are featured on this recording, including Tiffany and Jerome Malone, and the teen group, “C 3,” who appeared with Durant during the Extravaganza concert at ACAFEST. The enthusiasm was off the charts!

Pepperdine Lectures provide Mountain Top Experience

Leading worship in the Firestone Field House this year was indeed, an amazing experience. My friend, Allen Denver described it as one of those memories “for all time.” I can only imagine what heaven is like, with the number of voices praising God together. We are already making plans to return next year. I hope to have the opportunity to co-lead with Anthony again. If you haven’t attended before, you should consider placing this week (in May) on your 2011 calendar.

Worship with the North West’s South West Church in Tigard

Tigard, Oregon was the site for a Praise & Harmony workshop on Friday evening, drawing worshipers from the entire Oregon and Washington region. The South West Church is an outstanding congregation of God’s people who are dedicated to excellence. Todd Hall is very passionate in leading this congregation’s desire and drive to worship God. It was a pleasure to join them for both of the Sunday morning assemblies to lead a mix of hymns and contemporary songs. Next stops on this tour: Myrtle Creek and Medford, Oregon before the Pepperdine Lectures.

Planes, Trains and Favorite Resurrection Songs?

Another reminder: We are actively recruiting volunteer singers for our next Praise & Harmony recording in September. We’re looking for four talented singers from each congregation who are willing to invest the preparation and practice in order to be ready for the combined recording. The location will be in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Some will fly into “T-town,” while most will be driving. If you are interested in auditioning the quartet (SATB) that you assemble, contact John Bynum at John@Acappella.com for details about the audition process.

Our group, ACAPPELLA, recently sang the national anthem at an NBA game in Oklahoma city. There are at least two versions of personal videos of that performance – the most recently posted one is in high def. Sign up for their FaceBook fan page to check it out. Be sure to catch the guys this summer as they’ll be traveling quite extensively. Better yet, do your youth group a favor and bring them to your city. Their schedule is filling quickly.

The “Featured Photo”, (third row down in the left column), was taken at dusk during our recent trip to New Orleans. So many songs, even spiritual ones, include railroads and trains in their lyrics. I was taken by the light illuminating the church building, at the same time a train was advancing from the same direction.

Join us at the Tulsa Soulwinning Workshop – a Family reunion

This month, we’ll be enjoying one of the longest standing gatherings among God’s people: The Tulsa International Soulwinning Workshop. Classes will be offered on a variety of topics. Inspiring singing will be enjoyed. Motivating messages from the Scriptures will encourage attendees, along with (one of my favorites), an ACAPPELLA concert. This year, for the first time, the official “kick off” is on Wednesday night at the Tulsa Fairgrounds. I’m excited to be leading singing for the Wednesday evening kick off and experience worship with Christians from the entire region and from abroad. Hope to see you there!

Combined Sunday morning worship in Brisbane, Australia

Redlands College was the location for a vibrant, combined assembly of God’s people in the Brisbane area, on Sunday, February 28. I have heard of many unity gatherings and combined assemblies on Sunday nights and other days of the week, but rarely do I hear of churches combining on Sunday morning. The agape atmosphere was exhilarating as we shared “a common love for each other and a common gift to the Savior.” Of course, I was encouraged by the opportunity to lead 20 songs during the service. The singing was some of the best I have ever heard. More importantly, it was obvious that people were enthusiastic about praising God and giving Him the glory He is due!

Celebrating the universal languages of music and worship

Here’s a shot of our family celebrating the wonderful days we enjoyed ministering to and fellowshipping with the Mito church. Judging from the tears, smiles, joy, laughter and all the comments, we are thrilled to witness how God used this trip for His glory. The precious brothers and sisters in Japan will not be forgotten as we pray for opportunities to worship with them again.

Celebrating Christmas with a candle light service in Japan

The service began with a prayer and congregational singing. The Lancaster Family presented a concert, including Christmas songs and some songs in Japanese (courtesy of the coaching of the talented, Michael McClain.) There was a message presented and a candle light service. The evening concluded with a rendition of Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” What a memorable Christmas!
